Goodbye Budweiser, hello America

The beer behemoth has renamed its flagship brew after the United States.

America, it's time to get drunk on yourself.

Budweiser, purveyor of fine malt beverages including Michelob Ultra Light Cider and Bud Ice, has renamed its flagship beer "America."

The brand's Belgian-based parent company InBev "confirmed the limited-edition label change, saying 'America' would replace 'Budweiser' on the front of 12-oz. cans and bottles, according to AdAge. The patriotic packaging will run from May 23 through "election season in November," the brewer told AdAge.

The new labels also include phrases like "E Pluribus Unum" and "from the redwood forest to the Gulf stream waters this land was made for you and me," as well as "indivisible since 1776."

The packaging will be accompanied by a summer advertising campaign called "America is in Your Hands." A national TV ad with the cans and bottles will premiere on June 1.

We at CNET speculate it will feature strong, American-looking hands clutching frosty-looking beers to the sweet sounds of Woody Guthrie. Or maybe Springsteen.

InBev did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
