It's rare to find a Zune HD selling for below its $219 list price. Sure, you'll occasionally see it as low as $170, which is the current deal over at Amazon. But $149? Nah, it never gets that low.
I don't think anyone needs me to espouse on the Zune HD's virtues; this is either a media player you're interested in or it's not. I can't say I'd choose one over an iPod Touch, even though the latter currently costs $199 for the 8GB model. But that's just me: I prize apps over other goodies.
Not that the Zune's goodies aren't compelling. Who wouldn't love an ultra-bright OLED screen, HD radio, and support for subscription music?
Indeed, I'd say this is the player for hard-core audio enthusiasts. CNET rated it four stars, as did readers, and the aforementioned Amazon product page shows an average user rating of 4.5 stars.
Bottom line: If you've had your eye on a Zune HD, this is the time to buy. I'll be interested to see if these sell out at this price, as I'm just not sure the interest is there.
Backup deal: If you have a Menards retail store near you, you can score a 32-inch Hyperion LCD HDTV for $249.99 plus tax. That's after a $50 mail-in rebate, which comes in the form of a check for store credit. Even without the rebate, that's a mighty good deal on a 32-inch TV.
