Telltale Games and HBO Global have announced that the first episode of Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series is now available to download for free on consoles and mobile devices. In addition, Telltale has revealed that the series' final episode, named The Ice Dragon, will be released worldwide on November 17.
The release date for the final episode coincides with the retail launch of the full season on disc for consoles and PC with a suggested retail price of $29.99. The first episode, titled Iron From Ice, can be downloaded for free on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and compatible iOS and Android-based devices.
Iron From Ice was positively received in GameSpot' s review, scoring an eight out of ten. Reviewer Alexa Ray Corriea praised the game's depiction of the Forrester family (a family who were specially introduced in the game) and its ability to recreate the same audience anxiety as the show.
Telltale's Game of Thrones series span six episodes in total, which is one more than seasons for the developer's other franchises, including The Walking Dead and Tales from the Borderlands. Outside of Iron From Ice, episodes cost $5 each or $25 for the full season. The game is also available DRM-free via digital distribution platform GOG.
