Amdahl IT, the information technology consulting services subsidiary of Fujitsu, has adopted the name and server product of another subsidiary, Fujitsu Technology Solutions Inc. (FTSI), the company will announce Tuesday. The new consulting group will sell the Fujitsu Technologyservers, which use a similar chip and run the same Solaris operating system as Sun Microsystems' machines.
Fujitsu has been gradually phasing out the name Amdahl. Amdahl once sold mainframes that competed with IBM's products. The FTSI consulting group, which competes against giants such as IBM Global Services and EDS, will continue to sell Sun servers as well, while the previous Primepower direct-sales effort will continue.
