Google's Nexus 5 smartphone has gone from rumors to reality, bringing with it a bigger screen, upgraded processor, and LTE support. It also comes with new OS innards, sporting the latest Android 4.4 KitKat.
Whereas Apple's iPhone 5S missed the boat on offering an unlocked phone at a reasonable price (it starts at $649), the Nexus 5 has landed at a much more attractive price. The unlocked 16GB version goes for $349 while the 32GB is $399. That's in keeping with the $349 price for the 16GB Nexus 4 at launch.
If there's a downer with the announcement, it's Verizon's absence from the party. Still, there are plenty of new features to keep both dedicated fans and the Android-curious intrigued.
The screen is 4.95 inches and the whole handset has been shaved down to 4.59 ounces. The 2.26GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor has a reputation as a powerhouse.
