Former Netscape exec joins Red Hat board

Eric Hahn, the former chief technology officer of Netscape Communications, now is on the board of directors of Linux seller Red Hat.

Hahn was instrumental in driving Netscape's Linux support, Red Hat said, as well as the decision to release its software as open source, a similar code-sharing model that Linux uses.

Hahn was chief executive of Collabra Software, then joined Netscape in November 1995. He was general manager of Netscape's server products division before being promoted in October 1997 to the CTO position. Hahn left Netscape in June 1998 to pursue a career funding Internet start-ups.

Hahn also is member of the board of newsgroup site Supernews and Internet communications company Kana Communications.

Red Hat, the top Linux seller, according to International Data Corporation, announced the appointment today.
