In response to the Perspective column written by Amit Maheshwari "":
I strongly agree with Amit Maheshwari. Information technology professionals in the United States as well as in the European Union have to become more competitive in order to retain their jobs. Continuing education after getting a job is becoming an unavoidable step.
A problem Amit did not mention is the (in)ability of underdeveloped countries to generate new technology; quite simply, they do not have it. Poverty's best friend is illiteracy or low levels of education. In order for these countries to grow, it is very important that they get foreign investment that translates into jobs, not foreign aid.
