Horror movie fans have been clamoring for Ash to take another stab at ridding the world of its demons and his possessed girlfriends. They've started an endless series of rumors about a fourth "Evil Dead" film ever since the Internet became a thing. They tried to get New Line Cinema to support an epic showdown between Ash, Freddy Kreuger and Jason Voorhees to no avail. They even tried a trilogy of lukewarm "Evil Dead" video games just to give the fans something to sink their blood-stained teeth into for a while.
Now, Ash is coming back in a big way thanks to Starz's upcoming series "Ash vs. Evil Dead," and Entertainment Weekly released an exclusive first image of Bruce Campbell and his trusty chainsaw on Wednesday.
The still image features Williams in his iconic, blood-stained garb complete with that former Sunday-best blue dress shirt, the chest strap that holds his trusty boomstick and his beloved chainsaw that replaced the evil-infected hand he sliced off in "Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn." The new still also features two of Campbell's co-stars -- Ray Santiago as Pablo and Dana Delorenzo as Kelly, two co-workers who get mixed up in Ash's latest showdown with a hellish stockpile of soul-swallowing demons.
Campbell told EW that Ash hasn't been up to much since he made it back from medieval times (not the theme restaurant) and saved the world from an endless stream of Candarian demons, except for hanging out in bars and telling strangers about how he lost his hand. Of course, that all changes when he once again accidentally unleashes evil on the world because "he's the only one stupid enough to really tamper with those spirits," said director Sam Raimi, who directed the show's pilot.
You've probably figured out by now that I'm one of those big horror fans who has been clamoring for Ash to make his big comeback. Even though I haven't even seen an episode or even a clip of the new show outside of a very teasing teaser trailer, just this shot of a bloody Ash and two of his minimum-wage-earning co-workers has me amped for an entire season of bloody soaked goodness. Bring on the disembowelment!
Come get some "Ash vs. Evil Dead" sometime this fall on television and streaming.
