They discovered that "American Beauty" led with eight nominations, followed by "The Cider House Rules" and "The Insider" with seven nominations each. Nominees for best actress included Annette Bening for "American Beauty" and Hilary Swank for "Boys Don't Cry," while best actor nominees included Kevin Spacey for "American Beauty" and Sean Penn for "Sweet and Lowdown."
Turning to the Web to get the scoop on Oscar nominees has become a "tradition" in the Internet age--if there is such a thing. As in past years, some sites were sluggish in providing the news.
This year's Academy Awards ceremony will be held March 26 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
