Facebook and Spotify are teaming up to create a new music service that could be launched within two weeks, according to reports.

Facebook and Spotify are planning a new music service that could be launched within two weeks, Forbes reports.

The social network wants to make beautiful music by integrating a service that allows you to stream songs from Spotify's vast library. You'll see a Spotify icon appear on the left-hand side of your newsfeed along with your photos and events, and once you click on it, it installs the app on your desktop.

The service will apparently let you listen to music and chat about it at the same time with your friends, making music discovery easier and more fun.

"Facebook Music" or "Spotify on Facebook" -- Forbes isn't clear what it'll be called -- will be available for users in countries where Spotify currently has a presence, so that includes the UK, France, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Netherlands. The US is still missing out on the fun, though there are plans for a launch once Spotify ties up its negotiations with music labels.

"We have Facebook integration [already]. We're continuously working with them to make that as good as it can be. But that's the extent of our relationship," a Spotify spokesperson told Forbes by way of a "no comment". Indeed, Spotify already has Facebook Connect integrated to its own desktop interface, which allows users of the music service to share playlists via its desktop app.

Spotify has currently 10 million users, with 1 million of them paying a subscription for ad-free listening. Facebook's 500 million users would be a huge platform for it to expand into. The Swedish company recently rolled out a major update that allows you to sync your MP3s and playlists from the music-streaming service to your iPod, iPhone and Android devices, even if you don't want to pay a subscription. Essentially it's able to replace iTunes as your music-management program.
