Excite@Home (ATHM): The provider of fast Internet service said it reached a pact with Sony Electronics to demonstrate its Internet service on Sony's new Vaio laptop computer, scheduled to be introduced this fall. The demonstration will include samples of @Home's service and a link to the company's Web site, where people can subscribe to the service. Shares of @Home rose 31 cents, or 2 percent, to $15.
@Plan (APLN): Today, Internet advertising company DoubleClick said it will acquire @Plan, which conducts online market research, for about $120 million in cash and stock. Each share of @Plan will be acquired for $9.25 in cash and stock, a 28 percent premium over @Plan's closing price of $7.25 Friday. Shares of @Plan rose $1.50, or about 20 percent, to $8.75.
Bisys Group (BSYS): The company, which provides technical services to financial companies, will become a component of the Nasdaq Financial 100 Index, according to a press release distributed by Nasdaq via PR Newswire. Bisys replaces the Pioneer Group, which is being acquired. Shares of Bisys rose $1.50, or almost 2 percent, to $81.50.
Ciena (CIEN): The telecommunications equipment maker said it won a large contract with state-run Korean Telecom to provide fiber-optic gear for networks in seven South Korean cities. The company said it believes the deal to be the largest of its kind in Asia. Shares of Ciena rose $14.75, or about 12 percent, to $135.50.
Presstek (PRST): The maker of digital-imaging technology and printing equipment said it will supply Xerox with color presses and other products. Shares of Presstek rose $1.06, or about 5 percent, to $21.06.
Sprint PCS Group (PCS): A Lehman Brothers analyst raised the wireless phone company to "buy" from "neutral." Also today, Sprint PCS begins featuring New York Times digital content on its Internet-ready phones. Shares of Sprint rose $2.06, or about 7 percent, to $30.06.
