EchoStar in deal to lease satellite

SES Global, Europe's largest satellite company, will lease a new satellite to EchoStar Communications, which plans to use it to broadcast many premium television channels and to offer high-speed Internet service. The new satellite is being built and is scheduled to be shot into space in the third quarter of 2004. Further terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Satellite broadcasters are pushing to compete with cable operators to provide high-speed Internet access as well as premium programming from HBO and local TV.
