eBay names president for business arm

Online auction giant creates new position, putting John Donahoe in charge of the eBay marketplace.

eBay on Friday named John Donahoe as president for its eBay business unit. In the new position, Donahoe will be in charge of the eBay marketplace, which includes eBay North America and eBay International. Bill Cobb, president of eBay North America, and Matt Bannick, president of eBay International, will report to Donahoe, who will report directly to eBay CEO Meg Whitman.

Before joining eBay, Donahoe was working as managing director with business consulting firm Bain & Co. Prior to that, Donahoe had worked for Rolm and Salomon Brothers.
