Just in time for Net cruisers celebrating the July 4th weekend, Discovery Communications today is launching a beta version of Discovery Channel Online, a Web site located at http://www.discovery.com.
The site will give Web surfers access to original feature stories and each weekday will be dedicated to a particular theme. During the trial, for example, Mondays will be devoted to history, Tuesdays to nature, and Wednesdays to science.
The features will be updated daily with photographs, letters, sounds, video, and bulletin boards. Links to relevant Web sites will also be listed, Discovery officials say.
Discovery is working with Netscape Communications Corporation to develop the site. After the July and August trial period, the site will be officially launched on September 1.
According to Discovery officials, the goal is to support the service through advertising and modest subscription fees.
