Dick Smith closures: The final store will shut on May 3

After going into receivership earlier this year, the iconic yellow-fronted Dick Smith stores now have their final closing dates.

It's all official: The last Dick Smith store in Australia will turn off the lights and lock the doors on May 3, 2016.

It's been a sad, slow slide to the finish line for the Dick Smith outlets after the company went into voluntary receivership in January.

While the brand will live on as a online-only retail store thanks to Ruslan Kogan, the bricks and mortar stores are currently divesting themselves of as much stock as possible before shutting down for good. A dozen stores have already shut up shop with the next round of closure happening on April 23. Closures will continue every working day until May 3, when the last round of Dick Smith stores wrap up business.

Luckily for the employees, the Receivers have said that "employee entitlements rank as priority unsecured claims ahead of the secured creditors and are expected to be paid in full".

The Dick Smith website will continue to update with information on the closures until May 3.
