Defense Dept., Ariba ink B2B deal

Business-to-business software maker Ariba said Wednesday the U.S. Department of Defense selected the company's Ariba Commerce Services Network and Network Connect program to add to its DoD EMall marketplace service. The agency will use Ariba's network to attract suppliers to its marketplace, which military purchasers use to find and buy finished goods and items from the commercial market and government sources. Financial details of the deal were not available. The agency will also use the site to increase the number and types of suppliers, particularly small and independent suppliers. The deal comes as analysts say the business-to-government sector has seen slow growth.
