Acclaimed developer From Software will introduce a more methodical approach to combat in Dark Souls 3 -- one that is reminiscent of its PlayStation 4 hit Bloodborne -- according to an early preview of the latest build.
In the latest issue of Edge magazine, a walkthrough of the game reveals a number of tweaks including a new mechanic that should expand a player's moveset and add even more freedom to combat encounters.
The game's new "ready stance" -- which, when activated, gives players an alternate combat style -- is expected to add to the Dark Souls series' already extensive moveset. These extra attacks are reminiscent of Bloodborne's weapon modify mechanic.
Ready stance attacks will vary between weapons, the Edge article claimed. The longsword, for example, gains a guard-breaking "forward moving swipe", while the greatsword is granted a "charging upward slash" that flings enemies into the air.
Other refinements come in the form of a noticeably speedier backstep -- a Bloodborne favourite -- and options for swifter, more graceful attacks.
Certain ranged weapons have also had an overhaul that puts them in line with Bloodborne's fast but feeble firearms. The shortbow, for example, can be drawn far quicker, allowing players to whittle down an enemy's health while keeping them at range.
