CyberRebate files Ch. 11, shuts site

CyberRebate.com, an online retailer that offers rebates on consumer electronics, office equipment and other products, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the Eastern District Court of New York, according to a statement on its Web site Wednesday. CyberRebate has suspended operations and let go almost all of its staff, the statement said. A small number of employees remain at the Long Island, N.Y.-based company, to help assist it through the bankruptcy process. The posting also noted that questions regarding customers, vendors and others affected by the filing will be resolved along with the bankruptcy proceedings. More information will be available once the bankruptcy process gets under way. CyberRebate, which launched in 1998, recently added books, CDs, DVDs and magazines to its catalog of items.
