Copper Mountain unveils new telecom gear

Copper Mountain, a maker of communications equipment, will announce Monday two products aimed at the company's communication services provider customers. The new products arrive as Copper Mountain seeks to carve a niche among the more stable Baby Bell phone companies like Verizon Communications, BellSouth and SBC Communications, as well as long-distance companies like AT&T. The company had previously subsisted on revenue from carrier start-ups that are now foundering. The VantEdge 3000 is a box that carriers can use within urban area networks to pull together DSL (digital subscriber line) traffic and convert it to IP (Internet protocol). The VicintyVoice 100 aids in handling voice signals over DSL lines also using IP. Copper Mountain is promoting the products as a way for carriers to reduce costs while making networks more reliable.
