Compaq speeds storage system controller

Compaq Computer has released a higher-speed PCI card that controls RAID (redundant array of independent disks) storage systems, the Houston computer maker said Tuesday. The card supports the new PCI-X input-output standard, which transfers data twice as fast as the top speed of the existing PCI system. The system has battery-powered high-speed cache memory to speed data transfers and protect the data in the event of a power failure. The system costs $1,599, according to Compaq's Web site.
