Canon's trio of new IXUS cameras

Hot on the heels of its pre-PMA announcements in January, Canon has added three new compact cameras to its IXUS range.

Hot on the heels of its pre-PMA announcements in January, Canon has added three new compact cameras to its IXUS range.

All boast a 10-megapixel resolution and optical image stabilisation, while keeping the stylish, svelte design that Canon's compacts are known for. All three models use the company's latest DiGiC III image processor, and feature in-camera red-eye correction, as well as improved face detection with white balance adjustment, which claims to reproduce skin tones more naturally.

The IXUS 970 IS offers a 5x optical zoom, making it the most powerful zoom in Canon's ultracompact range. This is a nice upgrade from the standard 3x optical zoom that we're used to in the IXUS family, but we doubt it'll sway those looking for some serious zoom action.

If size is of the utmost importance, the IXUS 85 IS is the slimmest IXUS to date, measuring just 86mm by 54mm by 20.4mm and weighing a mere 130 grams.
