Canon has announced the Elura 20MC digital camcorder, which measures about 2 inches wide by 4 inches high and can fit in a pocket. It weighs just more than a pound with a battery and tape inside. The camcorder also doubles as a digital camera and records video or still images to a MiniDV digital videocassette. The camcorder can use either a Multimedia or a Secure Digital card. The Elura 20MC will cost $1,499 and is expected to reach stores in October.
Another model, the Elura 10, offers the same features, excluding the Multimedia or Secure Digital slots. It costs $1,299.
