Long-time cable TV and telecommunications industry executive Leo Hindery Jr. has been elected to the board of directors at Akamai Technologies, the company said Tuesday. Hindery, who previously has served as chief executive at Global Crossing, AT&T Broadband and Tele-Communications, currently is CEO of The YES Network, a regional sports programming network in New York.
A member of several other corporate boards, Hindery is known for his extensive Rolodex and deal-making ways. Hindery joins six other members on Akamai's board. The company's technology speeds the flow of content around the Internet by storing, or caching it, in strategic regional locations. Many major Internet companies use Akamai's technology. Separately, Akamai co-founder and Chief Technical Officer Daniel Lewin died last week aboard a hijacked plane that crashed into New York's World Trade Center buildings.
