Computer Associates ships OpenIngres 2.0, an extensive revamp of the company's relational database server, which now includes Web development support.

Computer Associates (CA) has revamped its OpenIngres database server with Java support and better data management tools.

The company today announced that OpenIngres 2.0, the first major upgrade to the database since CA acquired it in 1994, is now shipping.

OpenIngres 2.0 adds better data replication, row-level locking to support packaged business applications, support for Java, and connectivity to Web servers from Microsoft, Netscape Communications, and Spyglass.

The company also said its Unicenter TNG systems management tool will work with OpenIngres 2.0, allowing management, monitoring, and backup and restore operations.

No pricing was announced.
