CA has double-digit growth

Computer Associates (CA) capped a busy second quarter with the news that revenue jumped 22 percent and income increased 31 percent for the period.

CA which has a portfolio of products extending from its popular enterprise systems management platform, Unicenter TNG, to databases and development tools, spent the past three months announcing partnerships with industry heavyweights such as Intel, Microsoft, and Tandem Computer. It also unveiled a new division called NetHaven dedicated to Web site creation, design, and upkeep and held its annual CA-World user conference.

The company also spent $1.2 billion in cash to acquire Cheyenne Software, a leading backup and storage management software company, and wrote a check to acquire more systems management technology from Digital Equipment.

Revenues for the quarter ending the last day of September were $990.1 million compared with revenues of $812.3 million for the same period in 1995. Net income for the 1996 second quarter was $223.4 million up from the 1995 second quarter figure of $170.8 million.
