Break out your quarters! Mad Catz promises a controller for Xbox Live Arcade games.

Break out your quarters! Mad Catz promises a controller for Xbox Live Arcade games.

The Xbox Live Marketplace has become the unofficial dumping ground for home of classic arcade games, and recent releases such as Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting and Pac-Man have proven that the Xbox 360's standard controller, as great as it may be for current titles, can't handle the old-school stuff sometimes. Mad Catz, one of the biggest accessory producers for the Xbox 360, has cooked up plans to release a controller dedicated to emulating the arcade control experience.

The controller, unofficially dubbed the Mad Catz Retro Arcade Stick, is set at $50 (it was leaked onto a gaming retailer's Web site at $70 initially) and is styled to look like an 80s-era joystick--think the Atari 2600's controller. From the looks of it, the Retro Arcade Stick should include all of the buttons and analog sticks from the regular controller. Mad Catz is packing some value into the accessory by bundling full versions of Xbox Live Arcade games as well as other promised extras--GameSpot has, um, spotted bonus arcade points and a free trial Xbox Live Gold service. We will keep you up to date on the release information and put the controller through its paces when it releases.
