Bluetooth headsets see 153 percent increase in global sales

A new survey shows that Bluetooth headsets have gained in popularity in the last year, with as much as a 153 percent increase in headset sales worldwide. Motorola headsets saw the most sales, with 28.2 percent, while Jabra and Plantronics took second and third place, with 16.3 and 12.3 percent, respectively. The dramatic increase in sales is attributed to the low prices on headsets, as well as new laws that require the use of a hands-free device when driving. Stereo Bluetooth headsets for music and media applications have yet to gain in popularity, however, since only one in eight Bluetooth-enabled phones can beam a stereo signal. While the fate of stereo Bluetooth headsets remains in limbo, we do see this as another sign that Bluetooth headsets have reached the mainstream and might even be as ubiquitous as cell phones someday.
