BidBay settles eBay trademark lawsuit

eBay and online auction rival BidBay.com have settled their legal dispute, sources at the two companies said. As a result of the settlement, BidBay plans to change its name to AuctionDiner.com by early next month. BidBay will also pay an undisclosed amount to eBay as part of the settlement. eBay sued BidBay last summer, charging that its use of "bay" in its name diluted eBay's trademark. Earlier this month, Lego-trading site BrickBay diffused a similar controversy with eBay by changing its name to BrickLink.com. San Jose, Calif.-based eBay has notified more than five other companies that their sites may also infringe or dilute the company's trademarks, eBay Associate General Counsel Jay Monahan said.
