Software maker Autodesk has inked a deal to acquire software products from Media 100, a Marlboro, Mass.-based company that provides technology to create and deliver video and audio on the Web. Media 100's technology has been used for BMWFilms.com's short-film series, among other productions. Autodesk said it would purchase Media 100's streaming-media software for $16 million in cash.
The purchase marks Autodesk's entry into streaming media for the corporate and institutional markets. Two weeks ago, Autodesk unit Discreet upgraded software used by video and filmmakers for adding visual effects, motion graphics and 2D animation. The San Rafael, Calif.-based company is best known for its architecture and construction-design software, AutoCAD.
