AT&T ups Wi-Fi footprint

Firm says customers can now access Wi-Fi hotspots at more than 10,000 sites in more than 35 countries.

AT&T says its customers can now access Wi-Fi hotspots at more than 10,000 sites in more than 35 countries. The company recently expanded an existing agreement with connectivity provider GoRemote Internet Communications to add more access points. However, the companies did not disclose the number of new locations.

As of this week, AT&T has 9,094 Wi-Fi hotspots--5,770 in the United States and 3,324 in other countries--and 1,551 Wired Ethernet locations. Wired Ethernet access is provided through Internet protocol-based virtual private networks, or VPNs. AT&T also said customers can now purchase bundled monthly plans, which have a mix of dial-up, Wi-Fi and Wired Ethernet access options. This is in addition to normal unlimited Wi-Fi and Wired Ethernet plans.
