Are you willing to die for Elon Musk's Mars mission? (The 3:59, Ep. 114)

Also: We talk about the pseudo-death of BlackBerry phones and discuss Facebook taking on Slack.

A mission to Mars is just around the corner. Well, at least that's what Elon Musk wants you to believe.

The billionaire founder of SpaceX and Tesla revealed on Tuesday his ambitious plans for Mars colonization, though he left out some key details, such as how to fund the extremely expensive project. Also, the first trips to Mars should be quite dangerous, so Musk admits that candidates for the missions should be "prepared to die."

Today's podcast also delves into BlackBerry's decision to stop making phones after years of hard times, as well as Facebook's interest in expanding in the workplace.

The 3:59 gives you bite-size news and analysis about the top stories of the day, brought to you by the CNET News team in New York and producer Bryan VanGelder.
