Applied Materials to build Singapore center

Chipmaking equipment leader Applied Materials announced it has started construction on a new Southeast Asia headquarters in Singapore. The facility will include an extensive training section for teaching Applied Materials engineers and customers to use the company's silicon wafer processing equipment "The Asia-Pacific region offers tremendous long-term opportunities for Applied Materials as the demand grows for the semiconductors that our customers produce, raising requirements for advanced equipment necessary to create these chips," CEO James Morgan said in a statement.
