AOL, CNET strike content deal

The largest online service partners with the Internet company for co-branded computer buying guides.

CNET:The Computer Network has struck a deal to provide America Online with co-branded computer buying guides, a high-profile placement for the technology-oriented Internet media company.

Under the terms of the deal, worth $14.5 million over 2-1/2 years, CNET will provide AOL's proprietary service and its other Internet properties with customizable hardware and software buyer guides. CNET also will provide AOL.com with free software downloads, the company said in a statement.

CNET is the publisher of News.com.

In addition, content from CNET's Web sites will be featured on AOL's various services, and the agreement includes development of "AOL-related" content for CNET's television programming, the statement said.
