Amazon.com said Wednesday it is offering faster shipping options with the aim of speeding up delivery time to its overseas customers. Amazon's international customers can now receive goods within 11 days to 21 days instead of the prior delivery window of 14 days to 84 days. The company said shipping rates and times will be broken down into 10 clear-cut geographic regions and that pricing and transit would be based on the distance from Amazon's U.S. distribution centers.
Amazon has broadened its relationship with Deutsche Post Global Mail and its DHL unit to provide the regionalized shipping services. Also, music, movies and software can now be shipped via standard shipping, something that was not available before. Amazon said it ships products to more than 200 countries around the world and about 26 percent of its 32 million customers live outside the United States.
