All-female 'Ghostbusters' could star Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy

The "Bridesmaids" alumnae will reportedly team up with "Saturday Night Live" players Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon to fight New York's phantom menace.

Ever since "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig confirmed that the new "Ghostbusters" film he was directing and co-writing with Katie Dippold would star "hilarious women," we've debated who would end up chasing ghosts while cracking jokes.

Would the cast of "Bridesmaids" buddy up with Slimer or would we see a brand new crop of funny ladies? The short answer is both yes and no.

Negotiations are still in progress, but the main four women who could soon be signing on the dotted line to star in the new "Ghostbusters" include "Bridesmaids" cast members Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, as well as "Saturday Night Live" players Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Feig has worked with McCarthy and Wiig before on the blockbuster comedy "Bridesmaids," but this will be his first time directing Jones and McKinnon. This is good news for fans who were not only hoping for an all-female cast, but a truly funny one.

The "Ghostbusters" reboot has undergone what can only be accurately described as development purgatory. The original "Ghostbusters" cast of Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson had agreed to return to specter chasing while Bill Murray was still unsure.

Original director Ivan Reitman was also previously ready to take the helm again. However, when Ramis passed away last year, everyone bowed out of the project.

Feig took on the new "Ghostbusters" project and gave the script a new look and approach, along with the concept of an all-female lead cast, which he confirmed in October.

While the story is still under wraps, we know the four wraith wranglers will be filming in New York over the summer. So ghosts, beware! We have a new gang of girls to call, and they're ready to fight.
