Agency buys stake in Net consultancy

New York-based interactive communications agency Euro RSCG Worldwide said Thursday it has acquired a majority stake in 3-year-old Argentine consulting firm WhyNet, whose clients include MasterCard, BellSouth, 20th Century Fox and Telefonica. WhyNet CEO Gustavo Razzetti retooled the company in April 2000 to include consulting, Web development and design, site maintenance and online marketing. Client billings have increased by 200 percent since 1999. WhyNet will become Euro RSCG Worldwide's fourth agency in Argentina, making Euro the eighth-largest interactive consulting firm in Latin America and reflecting corporate America's growing interest in the region. At the end of 1999, 2 percent of Latin Americans were online, but that number is expected to reach 12 percent by 2005, according to a study last year by Jupiter Media Metrix.
