Acer Stream: Android in the Stream, that is what we are

Acer has unveiled the Stream, a new Android-powered smart phone with a humungous screen

The Acer Stream is a new Android-powered multimedia mobile rocking a giant screen and social-network integration. Acer unveiled the brand-new smart phone amid a flurry of announcements today.

A new 3D front end has been plastered over Android 2.1, including a peeling gesture to unlock the phone, three types of predictive keyboard and a smart dialler. The redesigned contacts list includes social networks, Facebook and Twitter app Twidroid built in.

The Stream is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor with 512MB RAM. It packs GPS, HSDPA, Bluetooth and 802.11n Wi-Fi. A 5-megapixel camera also shoots 720p video, which you can pump to a TV via HDMI. You get 2GB of flash memory built-in, and an 8GB microSD card comes bundled with the phone.

The 94mm (3.7-inch) AMOLED screen displays 'ambient information', such as the weather, when the phone is locked. When unlocked, the top of the home screen is dedicated to app history, so you can easily switch to a recently used app.

We've confirmed the Acer Stream will be coming to the UK, but Acer doesn't have a date for you yet. We'll keep you posted.
