The MP3 Insider podcast gets up close and personal with the new Microsoft Zune HD.
[ Music ] ^M00:00:04 >> Jasmine: It's Tuesday, August 11th and you're listening to the MP3 Insider Podcast, I'm Jasmine France. >> Donald: I'm Donald Bell. >> Jason: And I'm Jason Howell [assumed spelling]. >> Jasmine: And we have a very special guest with us today we have Brian Seitz from Zune, which means, yes, we'll be talking about the Zune HD the entire show, the playback screen, I think, is definitely worth showing off it's very unique and cool. >> So can I just hold that to my camera here? >> Brian: Yeah, hold up the camera and see if this HD camera technology can actually do it some justice. Alright, let's see if I can get without a shine here. But this is the Mos Def's artist page and you can see it's got a nice image of Mos Def in the background looking swas [phonetic] and his [inaudible] there. And that's just kind of a, like I was saying before, like trying to bring that kind of premium experience for consumption and like, you know, digging through your digital crates down to the device. >> Donald: Right >> Brian: Then if you were to click into Playback here it's, again, a similar view except you've got the album front and center there. And then there's a nice little piece of eye candy here once it plays for a little bit that'll hold up that I'm really excited about. It's an experience that goes out through the HD dock. So folks that are kind of familiar with the Now Playing view today on the software we've brought that Now Playing view with the high res artist imagery full bleed in the background and then scrolling information about the track and the number of plays and is it social, the length of time the track's been playing or whatever and then -- >> Jason: So it's like a bad ass screen saver mode for the -- >> Jasmine: Yeah, that's really cool. >> Brian: And like I said it goes out, you know, in really high quality out to your display if you have it hooked up to the dock. >> Jasmine: Yeah, it'd be great on the TV for sure. >> Yeah >> Cool >> And then there was also, were you able to access like bio information or anything on there? >> Brian: Yup, so here's like the artist's photos here. Let's see if we can do this without -- >> Donald: Do it blindly. I know that feeling. >> Yeah >> Jasmine: It's hard to do without looking at the screen. Like when we do our videos. >> Brian: And then the bio. ^M00:02:00 [ Background noise ] ^M00:02:04 >> Brian: There's just the bio screen there and you can, you know, scroll, get their whole -- all their bio information. And then, like I said, you can click Related and it will show the related artists and then if you're in Hotspot it will connect straight into the store and you can just start downloading related artists discography as well if you're a Zune past subscriber. >> Jason: Yeah, that is very cool. >> Jasmine: So why don't you give it a little twirl there in front of the camera so people can get a look of the whole -- around the design. People are asking a lot about the size and the finish and everything, so we like the twirl. >> Donald: I'm a professional hand actor here. >> Jasmine: Let Donald do the twirl. >> Donald: I do this every week. I can do the model, the gadget model. >> Jasmine: We've got it nice and straight. >> Donald: I'll keep my giant head out of the way. >> Jasmine: Yeah, try and keep your head out of the frame on there. Some of the other questions that we can ask while he's giving the twirl there and that's, is there any information yet? I'm not sure I didn't see this anywhere but do you have any information on battery life that you're giving away at this time, or you kind of haven't tested or? >> Brian: Yeah, the Hardware Team is still working really hard on the firmware to optimize some of that stuff and so we don't have our benchmarks done quite yet but, I mean I can say that it's a lot longer than the current generation devices thanks to -- >> Jasmine: Oh great. >> Brian: the OLED screen and like the Tegra processor is really good for battery life as well. So nothing concrete yet but we'll make sure to let you guys know once we get that firmed up. ^M00:03:26 [ Music ]
