XCAR Review of 2013: October
Hi.
And welcome to XCAR's round up of the year, where today we're looking at October, another busy month where we look at the Exige S Roadster, the Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG.
We went on an Albert Ball road trip.
And we look to the Jaguar CX75 moving on to the Exige S Roadster.
-Smaller, more powerful, less roof, less space, more
everything.
Love that thing.
It was like the Exige which a little bit pared-down.
It's more sort of street-ready in that respect because it's lost a bit of down force, it's has lost a bit of weight.
It's pretty cool.
I really like it.
I really, really like it and you want to hear it at full chassis as well.
-It matters anything, I mean for convertible, you're saying, "Okay, it's pared-down.
It's not as aggressive." And yeah it doesn't look quite as aggressive as the coupe but still it goes as aggressively and being in the passenger seat with you, we had a lot of fun in that
and the sound that it made, that would be sick.
It's just-- it still haunts you and, well it is just as cooler car and you're right.
It does make every other convertible out there.
-Yeah, it makes everything look a little bit like, "Oh, you brought that with you.
Well, this is more hardcore I say--
-Okay.
So, from British craziness to German craziness, SL63 AMG.
-We drove the 350 SL and I found a little bit underwhelming 'cause it wasn't that sporty and it wasn't that light.
Well, this still isn't light.
But oh, my
God it's sporty, largely because it has the same immense of power and wasn't on the 60 and sniff over 4 tops out at a stupid speed if you take the limits off it was yeah, it was like a big hammer.
I really liked it.
-That was our first AMG as well.
-Yes, it was our first AMG thoroughly enjoyed.
Here's to many more chaps.
-Well from-- they are back to Britain and somehow also back to Germany if we go with the Albert Ball road trip in a Morgan 3-wheeler
[unk].
-Well, Rich and I had this great idea of having a road trip of Albert Ball starting in Nottingham where he was born and going to the place in Northern France where his playing was ultimately shut down.
He was a World War 1 fight pilot and arguably the first ever war hero of Britain.
He was exceptionally young when he died yet the life he lived was extraordinary and to go to his kind of the place where he was buried and the place where his playing was short down and the place where he grew up.
It was just kind of an extraordinary experience and, you know, he loved Morgan
3-wheelers and it was so incredible to drive a vehicle that was so similar to the one that he loves because, I mean, the new Morgan 3-wheeler isn't so dissimilar to the one that was there in the 1900's.
-The one we drove as a normal XCar film earlier in the month and as a car it's not actually too far to move from the one that was made in 1910, 1911, 1912.
The design hasn't difficile that much.
It's a newer, cleaner, faster engine where all in all, the design
is pretty much the same.
-So, from slightly insecure cars to the absolute cutting edge of technology and maybe something that never was, the Jaguar CX75.
-Jaguar CX75, someone said, "Is it the best car that was never made?" No.
It isn't the best car was never made 'cause they made it.
They made five of them.
Each prototype did something a little bit better than the last and the blue one fits quite heavily enough footage is person number 5. That is pretty much bang on.
The interior was
borrowed bit so then the parts been special but it was beautifully upholstered.
It was everything about it-- it was stunning.
But first of four was the one I got to drive at full-checked.
It was-- I got to 189 miles an hour, which is the fastest I've ever driven and that was quiet something.
It was unbelievably first, unbelievably noisy.
Everything about it was very visual, very hypercar-ish.
It's the car that should be there right now.
It's currently the go standing behind
the McLaren P1, the La Ferrari and the 19 Spider.
It should be there but it's not because Jag killed off, because it didn't think enough people would buy it a crying shame.
They may have been right though and having seen it, having experienced it if that's what Jaguar thinks won't sell, then what exactly do they think will sell?
-Anyway that was October.
Join us again tomorrow.
We will be rounding up November and December.
