First Look: Vizio Thin + Light CT14 hands-on

Taking a bold step into the PC market, the Vizio CT14 is a fresh take on the 14-inch ultrabook, held back by some first-gen jitters.

I'm Dan Ackerman and we are here taking a look at the Vizio CD fourteen. This is 188 pretty highly hype line of new laptops and -- one that desktop PCs and video. A company that usually makes TV if you may ask yourself why anything computers now. What's a good question exactly the second that kind of consumer electronics manufacturing getting into PCs this year that we seen after -- reasonably. For razor company that makes all kinds of that computer gaming accessories like that system which was very ambitious but maybe a little bit -- outside the norm. These things -- systems are fairly standard -- books with them Bob you know unique design features. And interesting choices as to what the left is and what they took out. I mostly for fourteen inch ultra book on the CT fourteen is very thin it's very like it really has that sort of consumer electronic vibe to it where they -- Designed at first we really cool and then figured out how to put all the parts and side rather than -- the other way around which is how you get a lot of generic ultra -- that you see these days. -- -- -- Thumbs up on the overall design the size and the weight. This particular version has a core I seven CPU in a -- about 12100 bucks us off a core I record three version. I they all had solid state hard drives which I would like to see anything that calls itself an ultra book. You'll see that a keyboard is probably the biggest departure from current laptop design it's an of the island -- -- port privilege everybody has. I these are widely spaced keys that are Patrick -- together he kinda -- -- especially because it's got the same sort of -- silvery color. Of what MacBook Pro keyboards used to look like although in this case it's not really is good. Is it is a good bit of flex than your fingers -- you're typing. You know not -- not the best that I keyboard that I've used and the touch pad the click pad style. Op but again not as -- -- on -- MacBook and and clicking down in the quarter -- -- for right click cancel the intermission really got it. Now it. In exactly the right spot. -- -- packed a couple of USB three point oh ports and here -- HDMI output that's great but. There's no SD card slot which is really weird the only laptop like that I could be dead and being an eleven inch MacBook Air an ethernet Jack but. You know a lot it's too personal to books don't have that. I do like the screen guy in that -- -- 16100 by 900 screen which is a nice resolution for something like this. Operative a little bit that we can qualities of disease she screens even though its IPS display which means the off axis viewing I really good and it's actually for -- -- crisp and bright. So if you're looking for an -- but -- had more of a consumer electronics healthier sort of I had taped to it. I've that is -- -- checking out this new of this field line to take a couple weeks if it's a couple first generation -- in there. But I really really interested in seeing what -- -- for the next round assistant -- Ackerman -- that is the Visio CT fourteenth.
