Quick Tips: Use iPhone's maps locator

0:54 /

Find yourself on your iPhone with the new locator feature from Google Maps.

[ Music ] ^M00:00:02 >> Hey, I'm Tom Merritt from CNET.com. Here's a quick tip for finding your current location in the new version of Google Maps on the iPhone. Now, you have to have firmware version 1.1.3 to make this work, so make sure you got that on there. Then tap Google Maps. Tap that little circle with the hash marks, kind of looks like a gun sight down in the lower left corner. Now, depending on where you are, Google will be able to triangulate your position from the surrounding cell towers. Then press the "I" button, press "Replace Pin" and you can move the pin closer to your present location and then use that as your starting point for directions. I've had this feature pinpoint the intersection I'm standing at and I've had it unable to tell where I am at all. Your mileage may vary. That's it for this Quick Tip. I'm Tom Merritt for CNET.com. Good luck in finding yourself. ^M00:00:51 [ Music ]
