First Look: Twelve South BassJump portable subwoofer

1:34 /

Though it won't turn your MacBook into an all-out rocking sound system, the BassJump will drastically improve its overall sound quality and add that extra oomph to your music.

>>Hey, what's going on everyone? I'm Jeff Bakalar for CNET.com. Today we are checking out the BassJump portable subwoofer for your MacBook Pro and the BassJump is a portable subwoofer for your MacBook that is actually about the size of a stand alone Mac Mini. It's got some really nice matching aluminum finish on the sides and underneath is a rubberized bottom. Now the BassJump works by blending lower frequency audio with what your stock MacBook laptop speakers spit out. Now the end result is a really impressive sounding mixture that drastically improves the overall sound quality. Most impressive though is that you'll only need to use a simple included mini USB wire to power and transfer audio to the device. We also really liked the downloadable BassJump software. Now it is required to get this thing to work correctly but it also gives you some really nice gauge visual layouts and plenty of customizable EQ settings. There's also a laundry list of presets too that you can try out. Overall, we we're really happy with what the BassJump can do for your existing MacBook audio. It's easier than carrying around external speakers and the sound quality is surprising powerful. Unfortunately, however, only MacBook owners can take advantage of the BassJump and you can find this online for as cheap as $60. I'm Jeff Bakalar and this has been the BassJump portable subwoofer for your MacBook.
