In this day and age, where a car is made is usually best answered, on Earth.
It's a very global business.
But I get a lot of email from folks saying, what are the best cars that are made in America?
I'm Brian Cooley with my top five of exactly that.
The most American, American cars.
But they're not all American brands.
[MUSIC]
We're gonna rank these by being first of all, 75% Canadian and US parts, that's important.
We're taking that from the US governments American Automobile Labeling act.
Which considers US and Canadian manufacturer to be American.
You see it on new car window stickers.
We're gonna tell you their sales volume for the last full year, that was in 2013.
And we're gonna roll in JD Power's quality and reliability numbers.

This is a good estimate of what it really means to be American made.
Let's go.
Number five, the Dodge Avenger, 76% American content, 93,000 go out the door in a year.
About 3 stars for quality, 2 for reliability.
This one is odd because the Avenger's about to be replaced by an Alpha Romeo based car for the 2015 model year.
Its swan song ranks highest for American content by a single point.
It comes out of a Sterling Heights, Michigan plant.
But it gets our number five rank, because those quality and reliability numbers are nothing to brag about.
And it's the only car that doesn't always have a North American power [INAUDIBLE].
If you get the award winning 3.6 liter pentastar.

That's from Mexico.
[SOUND] Number four, Toyota Tundra, 75% American content, sales of nearly 122,000 a year, three for quality, a stout four for reliability.
The Tundra is as Texas as manure on your boots.
It's built in San Antonio, in fact.
It's the only big pickup made in Texas, where everyone drives a big pickup.
That gives it a special flag waving quality, but probably the Texas flag.
Number three, Honday Odyssey, again 75% american content, nearly 129,000 sold in a year, a big 4 for quality, and a solid 3 for reliability.
The Odyssey has been made in Lincoln Alabama Since 1998.
And it's a consistent top rated minivan in a category, ironically, the Americans invented.
Number two: The F-150 Ford Champion.
75% American content as well.
Over half a million sell every year.
A three for quality.
A four for reliability.
The F-150 needs no introduction.
It's made in two plants, Dearborn, Michigan, right there at headquarters, and a huge factory in Kansas City that can turn out a truck a minute.
Both plants are also popular public tours.
But the F150 gets a radical new aluminium body style, starting in 2015 and a complete re-engineering as well.
So it will be interesting to see how the traditional American truck buyer responds to it.
We'll check in again next year.
Before I get you to number one, some interesting nuggets about other American vehicles.
The most American by content are the Chevy Express and GM Savannah vans at 80%.
But they're mostly for commercial use.
Where is the Corvette you might ask.
It too is a 75% US content car, but sales of 17,000 or so failed to make our cut today.
And JD Power has yet to rate that hot new 2014 Stingray.
The Camaro it's only 70%.
Mustang 65.
The number one American car is oddly enough the Toyota Camry.
75% U.S. and Canadian content.
Over 400,000 go out the door in a year.
A five for quality.
A four for reliability.
Yes the F150 sells more, but Georgetown, Kentucky's Toyota Camry is the best selling car.
And this list's star for quality and reliability which really say a lot about being made in the US.
So next time someone sneers at a car being built in America, remind them that our best selling, best quality one is indeed that.
