>> What's up everybody, I'm Antuan Goodwin and this is your First Look at our Editors' Choice Award winner the Eclipse AVN4430. Now, the 4430 is the collaboration between Eclipse, the makers of high-end car audio component and TomTom, a company that's best known for its portable navigation devices. The result is simply impressive. Here's what we like. The unit features of 4.3-inch touchscreen as well as a hard audio control for volume and source selection. TomTom does all the heavy lifting when it comes to navigation. Now, we're already familiar with their GPS devices and the software. Frankly, they're among the best in the market. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Turn by turn directions are read allowed through your vehicle speakers with street names being pronounced rather robotically by the TomTom's text-to-speech system. Traffic data isn't available on the AVN4430, but Eclipse does offer an AVN4400 that adds RDS-TMC that's going to give you that traffic information. Bluetooth hands-free calling is also handled by the embedded TomTom PND. It can display and send SMS text messages from the touchscreen if your phone will also support that. Now, here's the cool part. When it's time to get out of your vehicle and in to somebody else's the PND detaches and functions by itself. MP3 playback, Bluetooth hands-free and of course the nav will be unusable until the PND is returned, but you still have access to the AM/FM radio and CD player, thanks to this tiny LCD display. Press on the volume nav which is between navigation mode and audio mode. Now, out of the box users can choose to playback there media from either a single disc DVD player, they included USB dangle with MP3 WMA playback. An AM/FM radio tuner or through the RCA inputs, but it doesn't stop there. Users can also add satellite radio, a rear view camera or iPod integration. Now, iPod users will have to incur the additional cost of purchasing in iPod direct connection, but on the bright side it does support audio and video playback. Simply put the ability to detach the portable nav device gives you a much more flexible unit that you can use when you're in your car and when you're out of your car. We wholeheartedly recommend the AVN4430 as your one-stop shop for audio, video and navigation goodness. I'm Antuan Goodwin and this is your First Look at our Editors' Choice Award Winner the Eclipse AVN4430.
