CES 2013: The Philips AEA7100 Starmaker is for karaoke fans

1:18 /

Philips has a karaoke set for enthusiasts at a high price.

-Hello karaoke fans. I'm Luke Westaway for CNET here at CES 2013 checking out the Philips AEA7100 Starmaker. So, this is pretty simple. What you've got is an 8-watt speaker; and a microphone; and this free app, which is the Starmaker app, plugs in to the top of the speaker. Now, the app itself is free, so what you're paying for is all the extra kit. It's not too hard to use. You get a list of songs on the app here. It's running on an iPad, but I think you could also use it for an iPhone, iPod Touch, anything iOS basically. You choose a song. You set it to record. It plays through the speaker. And you swing along in the microphone. The microphone communicates with the speaker via Bluetooth. If you think you can do better than all of your favorite popstars, you can upload your vocal creations to Facebook and share them with your friends who I'm sure will be very, very happy to hear your efforts. It's quite an expensive way of getting your karaoke kit. It's certainly more pricey than just singing along to the radio. It costs $180, but the good news is that you can buy it now from the Apple Store. So, that's everything you need to know. Let us know whether you would have the guts to use this product. I'm Luke Westaway for CNET, and this is the Philips AEA7100 Starmaker. Now, if you'll excuse me. -So, here's my number so you call me maybe.
