The LaCie D2 Thunderbolt 2 costs a lot of money

Computer Accessories
[MUSIC] Hi guys, Doug Ngo here and this is the D2 Thunderbolt 2 drive from Lacie. Now this one is quite special for a few reasons. First, it is the very first on the market that is a single volume external hard drive, meaning it have only one internal drive on the inside. Yet it supports the Thunderbolt 2 standard. Now obviously the speed of the Intua drive on the inside is so much slower then the speed of SunUbuntu, which is 20 gigabits per second. But this mean the drive here can be used in a daisy chain set up with other SunUbuntu devices. Second is the design, it come with the base right here with many, many, little rubber feet, that help keep the vibration away and also keep the drive stay flat on a surface, without moving around too much. But the main reason why it's special because is very expensive, now. This top capacity here, 6 terabyte, cost some $500 in U.S. or 390 Pounds in the U.K. or some $650 in Australia. And if you want to spend more, and why not, right? You can also spend money on this SSD upgrade kit. Cuz this one here costs some $300 in US itself. Basically you just swap out the back of the drive, just like this. And by the way, user kit also means you do away the USB [INAUDIBLE] port. I guess I'll see one to make the upgrade kit [INAUDIBLE] Now, the kit adds another 128 GB to the drive. You will have two separate volumes, though. One's super-fast for hot data, and the other for long-term storage or backup. And speaking of speed, the [UNKNOWN] very fast in my testing, with a sustained real-world speed of some 180 MB per second for writing. And some 200 megabytes per second for routing when used with the frontal box. When used with esp 2.0 it offers some 135 megabytes per second for writing, and some 140 megabytes per second for reading, and when upgraded the the pca express so stated part can offer more than one thousand megabytes per second. That's crazily fast. The d 2 is available now in three, four, and six terabytes for more on it check out my full review at cnet dot com. Basically they're very expensive storage device but in this case you pay for what you want to get and to many of you I believe this little blue ball right here. It's clearly a nice bonus, not me, though. That's because, I'm **** Ngo and this has been first look at the D2 Thunderbolt 2 Drive from LaCie.
