The Impossible Project's first instant film camera
[MUSIC]
The Impossible Project is the group responsible for resurrecting the old Polaroid Instance film after its investor discontinued both the film and the cameras.
The project just started shipping its first camera, the $300 I-1.
Think of it as a Fuji Instax for artistes.
The launch event took place in the Museum of Modern Art Soho Which makes sense given the camera's design.
It looks like a piece of modern art, which means you'll probably love it or hate it.
Personally, I'm not fond of the gray, angular design.
But the designers do face some limitations in reinventing the camera.
For instance, that huge sloped back is necessary because of the combination of the big film pack and a mirror that reflects the image through the lens down to the film.
There's some modern conveniences however including an IOS tab for changing settings which you connect via bluetooth.
Otherwise, the camera's completely automatic.
Unlike the traditional Polaroid instant camera, the battery isn't in a film pack either.
And the view finder catches magnetically and folds down.
In addition, the ring flash around the lens doubles as indicator Your lights telling you the camera's connection status and how many shots are left in the film pack.
