The AKiTio Palm RAID is a speedy and expensive little Thunderbolt drive
[MUSIC]
Hi guys.
**** Ngo here, and this is the Palm RAID drive from Akitio.
Now palm, because it fits right in my palm.
Quite small.
I mean the drive, that is.
Not my palm.
My palm's perfect.
RAID because [UNKNOWN] support RAID.
Now, RAID stand for Redundant Array of Independent Disks and in this case, the drive here can combine two internal drives into one single volume for either very fast speed in RAID 0 or better disk security In red one.
So where to enter the drive you might ask?
Well, on the inside.
Let me show you.
Alright, here you go as you can see that's not one but two mSATA solid drive in here.
Now mSATA is the new standard that is smaller than the traditional 2.5 mSATA right here and that allows the [UNKNOWN] to remain.
Compact, now each of these two drives here has 256 gigabytes and that means the palmroid has a total of 512 gigabytes.
The palmroid here comes with all aluminum casing which is sturdy and solid and over here it has a built in portable cable I like this design because, partly, it's very convenient to take out the cable and you are ready.
Now performance-wise, this drive here can be really fast, fast, and kinda fast, depending on the RAID setup you're using.
So basically with the raid zero which is the default it can be as fast as close to 500 megabytes per second in read speed but in raid one it can be as kind of slow as about 90 megabytes per second in read and write combos So, basically, if you want something really fast in boot speed, compact and easy to use, this is a good drive to have, as long as you are rich.
That's right.
Because it's very expensive, costing close to $600.
And it includes only a short, one year warranty.
So beware, now for more on this one check out my full review at C new dot com.
Okay now the main reason why like this design because, see with a built in cable you can either lose the whole thing, which is sad, but you cannot lose just the cable.
Which is Annoying, and I would rather see you sad than annoyed.
As long as you are not annoyed and sad at the same time, and that's because I'm **** Ngo who always makes you happy.
And this has been the first look at the Palm RAID Drive from Akitio.
Are you happy now?
