As the presidential campaigns heat up, it might be just as important for the candidates to cover their social media bases as it is to have a position on national health care. In this Tech Minute, CNET's Kara Tsuboi reports on some of the best political apps and Web sites vying for your vote.

-Twitter has become especially popular with candidates on all levels. For this presidential campaign, you can follow President Obama @barackobama and republican candidate Mitt Romney @mittromney. And now a new service called Chirpify lets you donate money to the campaigns through Twitter. After you sign up for an account and linked Paypal, you can Tweet a donation to your candidate of choice. President Obama now has an account for the popular photography showing site Instagram. Bruce has fun candid picks for behind the scene glance at his campaign. For similar experience on the republican side, explore Romney's Tumblr page. Recent post includes photos and videos from the National Convention. And finally, both candidates had their own free smartphone apps available to download through Obama for America, you can follow campaign news and find election and voting information. Romney has a Romney Ryan App that offers all sorts of campaign info while aggregating his social media. No, no excuses for not being informed in San Francisco. I'm Kara Tsuboi, Cnet.com for CBS News.
