CNET News Video: Tech Minute: How to text a voice memo

1:01 /

For iPhone users out there, there's a little known feature that could make communicating with friends and family a whole lot easier. In this Tech Minute, CNET's Kara Tsuboi shows us how to text a voice memo.

Texting a voice memo is sometimes the best option when you don't wanna actually call someone or you just wanna express something quickly, like a grocery list. There are a handful of third-party apps out there that provide this service, but don't bother paying for them or downloading them. The voice memo feature of your smartphone is really all you need. To get started on an iPhone, open the voice memo's app and press the red record button to record your message. Hey, Jared. I'll see you in about five minutes. Once you're finished, go to your list of recorded memos, choose the one you want and hit share. You can either email it or send it as a message which really means by text message. Enter your friend's name and number and that's it. The file is sent as a Quicktime file that can be easily opened through the text message app. Hey, Jared. I'll see you in about five minutes. In San Francisco, I'm Kara Tsuboi, cnet.com for CBS News.
